For the fifth year in a row, Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers named Schiff Hardin LLP one of the “50 Best Law Firms for Women.” Working Mother analyzes firms’ family-friendly policies and career and business development initiatives helping women attorneys advance. Working Mother specifically recognized Schiff Hardin for its leadership programs and its high percentage of women partners.
This list is widely recognized as an important measure of how women are doing in the legal profession. Jennifer Owens, editorial director of Working Mother Media, says, “Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers’ Best Law Firms show how to make it work. Despite intense pressures, the success of the firms in creating workable solutions for working families shows their commitment and ingenuity to create a progressive future for their firms.”
Schiff Hardin is one of a handful of large law firms with a female managing partner, Marci Eisenstein, who is a working mother herself. I’ve spent my entire career at Schiff Hardin, largely because I respect and value the firm’s policies that have allowed me to build a successful career and raise two daughters,” Marci said.
“We are so grateful that Working Mother has included us on its list,” said Joanne B. Faycurry, head of the firm’s Women’s Networking Group and Gender Diversity Subcommittee. “We’ve worked hard to merit this recognition, and are providing some unique programming to our women lawyers. We recently ran a workshop on providing effective feedback, and repeated our popular Lessons Learned Lunch, where experienced women attorneys share their stories with more junior ones.”
Another Schiff Hardin innovation is its New Moms Group. Started by women associates, it has become a go-to resource for women returning to work after having a child. Melody Cross, one of the group’s co-founders, said, “Sometimes as a working mother, you can feel alone, dealing with the clash between work life and home life. But you aren’t alone at Schiff. The New Moms Group provides a built-in support network for moms of young children as they navigate rough patches while also concentrating on their careers.”
Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers co-founded the Best Law Firms for Women initiative in 2007 to recognize firms that lead the industry.
