Stacie R. Hartman practices complex litigation nationwide. She has particular expertise litigating issues in the futures and derivatives industry, including intellectual property disputes in the industry.
She acts as first-chair leading major cases in court and before arbitration panels at financial exchanges, the National Futures Association and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, as well as in enforcement and other proceedings before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. She represents clients in investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms. Hartman’s recent litigation successes include:
- obtaining summary judgment for CBOE to protect its exclusive rights to list options based on the S&P 500 and the Dow, reported in The Wall Street Journal, which described it as a "high stakes legal battle";
- obtaining defense awards at FINRA against claimants who had lost millions trading, as well as awards totaling over $2 million on her clients' counterclaims, reported in Securities Awards Monthly.
Her trial experience also includes the successful vindication of Michael Jordan’s termination of licenses for the use of his name in a restaurant and retail store.
