Mel is an experienced technology lawyer who concentrates in patents, trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition law. He has been successfully prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1983.

Leading companies rely on Mel to manage their patent portfolios, analyze company and competitor patent and intellectual property rights, and provide considered advice and counsel. He has prepared and prosecuted several thousand patent applications, covering many diverse areas of technology. Mel counsels companies on technologies and patent rights in fields as wide-ranging as genetically modified life forms, cut gemstones, options trading, clothing and fashion accessories, data encryption, vehicle inventory management, fragrance technology, surgical techniques and rocket engine design. 

Drawing from his background in electronics, software and telecommunications, Mel crafts creative solutions to varied intellectual property problems, including electronic devices and systems, software, and business methods and systems. Mechanical devices and design patent work also are significant areas of his practice.

Mel works with companies throughout the US, Europe and Asia and has assisted in intellectual property litigation including serving as an advisor during pre-litigation counseling, discovery and during trial. He also performs due diligence investigations, product clearance opinions, infringement investigations, patentability investigations, and patent validity investigations.
