Overview

G. Michael Bellinger is a seasoned litigator with nearly 30 years of experience representing major corporations, institutions, and individuals in high-profile prosecutions alleging wire and mail fraud, health care fraud, and securities fraud. He has also successfully defended some of the nation’s most recognizable brands and companies in employment law allegations relating to race, age, gender, origin, and disability discrimination. Most recently, he represented the mayor’s office of a major U.S. city in connection with a state investigation.

Michael’s practice focuses on the areas of white collar criminal defense, internal corporate investigations, FCPA investigations, complex commercial litigation, securities law litigation, and employment law litigation. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, a judge, senior corporate executives, a physician, investment bankers, federal and state elected officials, and media celebrities, whom Michael has represented before various federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Attorney’s Offices for the Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of New York, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Department of Justice and the New York State’s Attorney General’s, Inspector General’s, and Public Integrity Offices.

  • Experience

    • Represented the NYC Mayoral Administration in investigations beginning in 2017 by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, the NYC Department of Investigation, and the NYC Comptroller’s Office. All investigations were closed.
    • Represented an executive of a construction company investigated by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York. The investigation was closed.
    • Represented the CEO and the corporation in a tax fraud investigation conducted by the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York and the IRS. The investigation was closed.
    • Successfully cross-examined a state trooper in the Bridgegate case and also aided Bill Baroni throughout the appeal process.
    • Defended a U.S. subsidiary of a Canadian company in an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice involving alleged Foreign Corrupt Practice Act violations. The matter was resolved successfully without any government action against the company.
    • Represented an individual in an investigation in the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s Office involving the CEO of a major New York hospital; Michael obtained immunity for this client.
    • Successfully defended a U.S. Congressman in an “honest services” investigation by the Southern District U.S. Attorney’s office.
    • Prosecuted a New York City corrections officer for assaulting an inmate, who had been convicted for rape and murder, in his jail cell. The jury convicted, with full knowledge that the murderer killed a 99-year-old rabbinical scholar by asphyxiating him with his yarmulke.
    • Prosecuted a New York City police officer for assaulting three minors with a police car. The jury convicted.
    • Represented an individual in a 2018 investigation by the N.Y. Attorney General. Three individuals pleaded guilty, and Michael’s client was not prosecuted.
