** UPDATED VISITOR GUIDELINES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) **

Given concerns over the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), public health officials have recommended limiting travel to specific countries and developed guidelines for individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.

To ensure the health and well-being of our clients, guests, and employees, we have adopted the following visitor policy for all of our offices. Clients and guests should refrain from visiting our offices if:

  • They or anyone in their party are feeling sick or showing signs of infection (e.g. coughing, fever, or shortness of breath).
  • They have reason to believe they may have been exposed to a person experiencing symptoms of or diagnosed with COVID-19.
  • They have traveled to, or had a flight layover, in any of the countries the CDC has identified as Risk Level 2 and 3 (currently China, Iran, South Korea, Italy, and Japan) within the past 14 days prior to visiting the firm.
  • They have been in direct contact with someone who has traveled to, or had a flight layover, in any of the countries the CDC has identified as Risk Level 2 and 3 (currently China, Iran, Italy, South Korea, Japan, United Kingdom, Ireland, and most European countries) within the past 14 days prior to visiting the firm.

If these guidelines are unable to be met, please refrain from visiting our offices until further notice. For more information about the coronavirus and recommended travel restrictions, you can review the travel health notices issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention here

  • International

With lawyers in New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and San Francisco, our International Client Service Group is pioneering a new approach to international practice designed to meet the needs of our clients in the most cost-effective and time-efficient manner.

For foreign companies doing business in the United States, our attorneys — who are bilingual or multilingual and are trained in one or more foreign legal systems — serve as outside U.S. General Counsel, managing and supervising corporate, commercial, employment, intellectual property and, of course, litigation work. These lawyers are assisted by colleagues in their offices as well as those in Schiff Hardin’s Ann Arbor and Lake Forest locations.

For U.S. companies with operations abroad, we have developed relationships with a select group of major firms outside the United States that can assist us in representing our clients in countries worldwide. This “best-friends” approach is, we believe, the most economical, efficient way to deliver high-quality international legal services to our U.S. clients. Our foreign partners understand our U.S. clients’ need for compliance with domestic laws and regulations including, among others, FATCA, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, OFAC and ITAR.
