Schiff Hardin LLP released the following statement on the Black Lives Matter movement and its support for ending systemic racism.
We believe that Black Lives Matter. The senseless killing of George Floyd represents a human and civil rights crisis hundreds of years in the making. We must do more than we have in the past to address it – listen more, talk more, engage more, and, most importantly, act more.
In the coming weeks, we will have open dialogues within the firm to discuss our experiences, feelings, and ideas about how we can fight racism. We will continue to support and partner with organizations dedicated to fighting systemic racism and its consequences, and to represent people who are underserved in the legal system. Through our foundation, we will donate $25,000 to three organizations that pursue racial justice and advance the rights of Black Americans, and we will further match the donations our lawyers and staff make to these organizations. We will expand our diversity and inclusion training, and launch a new three-year plan for diversity and inclusion at the firm. And this year we will observe Juneteenth by giving our lawyers and staff time off on June 19, encouraging them to reflect on the events of the past few weeks, as well as the history of racial injustice in the United States.
George Floyd’s death opened our eyes to a crisis. We commit to make this tragedy a catalyst for meaningful change at Schiff and in our world.
