Schiff Hardin has continued to expand its Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Practice Group with the addition of three attorneys in its New York and Chicago offices. Stephen Liss, a former senior wealth strategist for UBS Financial Services and Barclays, joins as a partner in the firm’s New York office. The firm also added Counsel Lisa Lukaszewski and Associate Anna Luna in its Chicago office.
During his time in financial services, Liss assisted both domestic and international ultra-high net worth clients on income and estate tax planning matters, planned charitable giving, and sophisticated life insurance structures. Prior to working at leading financial services firms, Liss was a partner at the international law firm Withers Bergman LLP, where he built a domestic and international private client practice.
“We are thrilled to welcome Stephen, who has a strong background with counseling private clients and handling complex tax work from his years in private practice, to our growing team,” said Thomas W. Abendroth, leader of Schiff Hardin’s Private Clients, Trusts and Estates Practice Group. “Stephen brings a powerful combination of private practice experience and working directly with clients and advisers at UBS on the practical business of meshing their estate plans with their financial lives.”
Liss is chair of the Estate and Gift Tax Committee of the Real Property, Trust & Estate Section of the American Bar Association. He graduated cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, earned his LL.M. in tax from New York University, and received his undergraduate degree at Vassar College.
“I was looking for a firm with a strong commitment to its private client practice and a national presence. Schiff Hardin checked all the boxes. Having worked with several Schiff Hardin lawyers over the last few years, I was impressed by the group’s capabilities and the consistent quality of work they produced,” said Liss.
Lukaszewski most recently served as counsel in Neal Gerber & Eisenberg’s Private Wealth Services group and prior to that was at Holland & Knight. She started her career at Winston & Strawn. Lukaszewski earned her B.M. from DePaul University and her J.D. from the DePaul University School of Law.
Associate Anna Luna joins from Ernst & Young where she was in the Transaction Advisory Services practice. Before that she was an intellectual property attorney at Amin Talati & Upadhye. Luna earned her J.D from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, her LL.M. in Taxation with a focus on wealth transfer and legacy planning from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, and received a B.S. from Indiana University.
