Labor and Employment Practice Group Deputy Leader Lauren Novak was quoted on whether public sector unions can survive after the U.S. Supreme Court Janus v. AFSCME ruling, which held that public sector unions cannot force non-union employees to pay fair use fees to the union.
Lauren said, “There is no doubt that this decision profoundly impacts whether public sector unions will exist in the future. Without the ability to collect fair-share fees, many may not survive.”
She added that what this ruling means for the future of private sector unions remains an open question.
