Partner Joanne B. Faycurry was profiled by Leading Lawyers in its June 2017 issue. The article traced her path starting out as a first-generation Jordanian whose family placed a high value on education to building a successful state and local tax practice at a prominent law firm. Clients cited Joanne’s tenacity and tireless approach to her work as distinguishing her from other tax lawyers.
Joanne, who is chair of Schiff Hardin’s Diversity Gender Subcommittee and Women’s Networking Group, focuses on helping women associates grow and develop to assume leadership roles.
“Women are not yet on a level playing field, but we are getting closer, though not yet really close,” she said. “But what has happened as time has gone on is the discussion of disparity of treatment has become more open, relevant and important. We’ve made great strides and are going in the right direction, but there’s still work to be done.”
When she is not practicing law, Joanne works with the Women of Tomorrow Mentoring and Scholarship program in Michigan, which pairs at-risk high school girls with professional women for mentoring once a month during the school year.
