The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Chicago) has honored Schiff Hardin LLP partner Paul M. Lurie with one of three 2007 "Distinguished Service" awards. These awards are presented each year to professionals who provide exemplary service to the chapter and the profession it serves.
According to the AIA's announcement, "[Mr.] Lurie was chosen to receive a Distinguished Service Award from AIA Chicago, specifically for his many years of involvement in the AIA Chicago Foundation and for providing educational opportunities to students of architecture. Now a partner at Schiff Hardin, LLP law firm in Chicago, Lurie has provided legal counsel for property owners, developers, architects, and design and construction firms for more than 40 years. Over the past 35 years, he has given numerous presentations about ethics, mediation and arbitration in the construction practice at national and international conferences. He is an Editorial Board Member for the Construction Contracts Law Report and a long time active member of the American Arbitration Association's National Construction Disputes Resolution Committee, which sets policy for construction mediation and arbitration under the AAA programs. Paul Lurie has a keen appreciation for the work of architects and the important role of good design in Chicago." Founded in 1869, AIA Chicago represents over 3,000 licensed architects, architectural interns and allied professionals in Illinois.
Mr. Lurie has been business and legal counsel for major owners, developers, design and construction firms for more than 40 years. His experience includes providing counsel and advocacy concerning contracting strategy and negotiation and dispute avoidance and resolution. He has received numerous awards and honors for his achievements in construction law.
