Access to Clean Energy: How the Lessons Learned from Cooking Fuels Can Lead to Transformation

International Bar Association, Biennial Conference of the Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure Law 2018

Partner Sarah Fitts will moderate a panel addressing rule-of-law issues regarding the introduction of modern cooking and the requisite energy market into countries where solid fuels are still the primary energy source. The panel will also include a review of countries that have already begun to implement changes to demonstrate how the change can be implemented in all parts of the world. The discussion will focus on:

  • How to build a legal roadmap to effect change toward clean energy
  • The main barriers to change and transformation
  • The roles of governments, development banks, the United Nations (UN), and the private sector
  • The relationship of this undertaking to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
  • The types of legal capacity-building that will be needed

CPD and CLE credits are available.
