"Tough Love' Judge Avoids Trial, Resigns"
      Atlanta Journal-Constitution
      Leah Ward Sears
Schiff Hardin partner Leah Ward Sears was highlighted and quoted in the above article regarding Brunswick County (Georgia) Superior Court Chief Judge Amanda F. Williams resignation in the aftermath of an investigation and formal charges for alleged ethical violations and judicial misconduct. Sears, along with former state Attorney General Michael Bowers, represented the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission and filed the formal notice of proceedings and charges on its behalf. Ultimately, the judge resigned from her post and agreed to not seek future judicial elections or appointments in lieu of a voluntary dismissal of the proceedings against her. Her resignation will be effective as of Jan. 1, 2012. Sears' role in the matter contributed to a resolution that is ultimately the best for all involved parties and the State of Georgia. Sears was assisted by Atlanta associate Kimberly Bourroughs. A similar article mention and quoting Sears also appeared in the December 21, 2011 edition of the Fulton County Daily Report.
