More Than 300 Dogs Rescued From Abuse, With Schiff Hardin's Help
- Client: Animal Legal Defense Fund
- Date: 2004 - 2007
- Location: Lee County District Court (North Carolina)
In a case that has received nationwide attention, the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), represented by Schiff Hardin's Animal Law practice attorneys and North Carolina counsel, obtained a full and final judgment in Animal Legal Defense Fund v. Woodley. Bruce Wagman, who leads the firm's Animal Law practice and was personally involved in the case, took note of the exceptionally large number of animals helped at one stroke by this ruling.
In a case that began in 2004, the ALDF successfully sued to rescue approximately 350 dogs from an animal hoarder who kept the dogs warehoused in squalid conditions. Schiff Hardin's team helped the ALDF run the initial investigation and litigation through trial and appeal, and also assisted with the rescue, rehabilitation and long-term foster care for each one of the dogs.
The dogs will now be permanently adopted to loving homes where they can live out the remainder of their lives in the style and manner that they deserve.
