New Animal Shelter
- Client: Animal Legal Defense Fund
- Date: March 2009
- Location: Robertson County, Kentucky
Schiff Hardin partner Bruce Wagman led a legal team that investigated a Kentucky county shelter that was causing the suffering of dogs brought to the shelter, and refusing to care for cats at all.
Working with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and representing a local concerned citizen, Schiff Hardin filed a complaint that led to a complete settlement before any further litigation, based on the strength of the investigation and the allegations in the complaint.
The settlement, enforceable by the court, provides for construction of a new and largely improved shelter, which will provide a higher standard of care and superior home for the animals and, for the first time, include cats in the county's shelter program.
