Schiff Hardin was honored with the Above and Beyond Award by the Black Women Lawyers' Association (BWLA) on Thursday, May 28 at the BWLA's Annual Scholarship Reception and Installation Ceremony.  The Above and Beyond Award was given to Schiff Hardin "in recognition of its continued support in promoting diversity and scholarship."

Also during the ceremony, two Schiff Hardin attorneys, Marla Shade Harris and Tracy A. Campbell were re-elected to leadership positions on the BWLA Board.  Ms. Harris, an associate in the firm's Litigation and White Collar Crime and Corporate Compliance groups will be serving as Vice President, while Ms. Campbell, a partner in the firm's Litigation and Reinsurance and Insurance groups will be serving as Recording Secretary for the 2009-2010 term.  This is the fourth year Ms. Harris and Ms. Campbell have served on the BWLA Board. During the 2008-2009 term, Ms. Harris served as Recording Secretary and Ms. Campbell served as a Board Member at Large.

BWLA is an organization in its third decade of service, and its purposes are to (1) identify and address issues and concerns unique to African-American women lawyers and judges; (2) improve the administration of justice by increasing the participation of African-American women and other minorities throughout the legal system, (3) advance civil and human rights.
