Leah Ward Sears, a partner in Schiff Hardin's Litigation Group, will deliver welcome remarks at a conference presented by the Institute for American Values' Malta Forum. The conference titled "The Arab Cultural Debate and Its Implications for U.S. - Arab Engagement," will take place on March 5, 2010 at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
This event will bring together some of the most prominent Arab, Muslim, and Jewish scholars of religion and civil society in the Middle East with their U.S. counterparts for a serious engagement of ideas regarding the war on terrorism and Islam/West relations. The conference will include an invitation-only public meeting and panel discussion, and will feature participants such as former President Jimmy Carter, former Ambassador Andrew Young, Sheikh Abdullah bin Muhammad al-Salimi, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments of the Sultanate of Oman, and the American philosopher and economist Francis Fukuyama. Schiff Hardin is a named sponsor of the event.
The Malta Forum
The Malta Forum is part of the Center for IjtihadReason at the Institute for American Values. It brings together leading public intellectuals from the Middle East and North Africa with their counterparts from the United States for collaborative research and sustained dialogue on equal terms, seeking to clarify differences and identify common ground on key Islam/West issues.
