Paul A. Scrudato

Partner, Coordinating Partner

Paul A. Scrudato has tried numerous successful cases in the New York state and federal courts, and has also been lead trial counsel in federal and state actions in Illinois, Wisconsin, Maryland, Texas, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. Mr. Scrudato focuses his practice in complex litigation, with particular emphasis in product liability, and government investigations. He serves as national trial counsel to multiple companies with high-profile litigation and trial exposure, and he has extensive experience in negotiating complex agreements to control clients' trial risk. Mr. Scrudato represented the site owner in the World Trade Center disaster litigation, and negotiated the successful resolution of over 8000 lawsuits by first responders. He is a founding member of the New York City Asbestos Litigation Defense Group, and has played a leadership role in numerous initiatives to manage the litigation effectively on behalf of the defendants.

Mr. Scrudato is a coordinating partner of Schiff Hardin's New York office.

Publications

Mr. Scrudato has published numerous articles in The New York Law Journal and other national trial advocacy publications relating to product liability and mass torts.

Speeches and Presentations

Mr. Scrudato has spoken at over 20 conferences on issues relating to the trial of multi-plaintifff mass torts, the settlement of complex litigation, legal ethics and New York civil practice and procedure. He has also been an occasional lecturer at law schools concerning New York trial practice.

Pro Bono Activities

Mr. Scrudato was one of 20 trial lawyers selected nationally by the American Trial Lawyers Association and Trial Lawyers Care to represent a lead case arising out of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The 20 lead cases were the first to proceed through the Federal Victim's Compensation Fund, 49 USC 40101 (2001), and were template cases for the expected thousands of claims to follow. The lead cases were instrumental in establishing the application of the regulations governing the Fund to individual factual scenarios, and expanded the range of potential monetary awards to victims.

Mr. Scrudato appeared on national television and radio programs in connection with his work for Trial Lawyers Care.
