Karen V. Newbury

Counsel

Karen V. Newbury concentrates her practice on bankruptcy law and has extensive experience counseling clients on bankruptcy planning on both creditor and debtor sides, UCC issues, FERC and ICC issues, indefeasible rights of use, recovery of stolen funds and prevention of further thefts, breach of government contracts, partnership disputes and sales of business entities.

She has managed a variety of cases in both commercial and bankruptcy litigation, including bankruptcy adversary complaints of all types, mediations and arbitrations.

Ms. Newbury has also managed internal investigations for private and government-funded clients.

Pro Bono Activities

Ms. Newbury has worked with the AIDS Legal Council, Society for Child Abuse and other nonprofit organizations. She has also been involved with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Currently, Ms. Newbury mentors and tutors Chicago-area high school students with the Chicago HighSight program.

Previous Experience

Ms. Newbury assisted in the formation of a successful Chicago start-up company, for which she served as general counsel. She was also self-employed in private practice where she represented individuals and small businesses in various workers' compensation, fraud and employment discrimination claims. She has also managed internal investigations for private and government-funded clients.
