Lalania Gilkey-Johnson concentrates her practice in trademark, copyright, Internet law and general intellectual property law.

Experience

Ms. Gilkey-Johnson's work has included:

  • Global policing of U.S. trademarks for Fortune 500 companies
  • Selection and registration of U.S. and international trademarks
  • Drafting a social media use policy
  • Regularly working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to prevent importation of infringing products into the United States
  • Coordinating with foreign counsel to establish, maintain and enforce trademark portfolios
  • Regularly drafting, negotiating and settling terms for cease-and-desist letters
  • Advising clients on Internet law, including terms of use, trademark violations and screen-scraping matters
  • Assisting in bringing UDRP domain proceedings, matters before the WIPO and NALP proceedings
  • Drafting trademark use, license and settlement agreements
  • Responding to Office Actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Pro Bono Activities

Ms. Gilkey-Johnson's pro bono experience includes:

  • successfully defending an appeal of a civil defamation and conspiracy suit;
  • successfully negotiating a breach of contract claim for an animal rights client in which the client recovered 100% of its losses.

Previous Experience

Earlier in her career, Ms. Gilkey-Johnson worked for Sprint Corporation for over a decade in several functions, including as a branch sales director for Sprint Corporation in Rosemont, Illinois where she negotiated complex voice, data and wireless telecommunication contracts for Fortune 50 corporations. Ms. Gilkey-Johnson was a recipient of Sprint Corporation's Diamond Award based on her leadership as a branch sales director. Additionally, Ms. Gilkey-Johnson was ranked as the top sales director in the corporation based on her performance.
