Stacie R. Hartman

Stacie R. Hartman is a partner practicing primarily in the Litigation, Securities and Futures Regulation, and Intellectual Property Groups. She has acted as first-chair leading major cases in federal and state court and before arbitration panels at financial exchanges, the National Futures Association (NFA) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), as well as in enforcement and administrative proceedings before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). She also has particular expertise litigating intellectual property issues in the futures and derivatives industry and patent disputes more generally.
Experience
Ms. Hartman's trial experience includes acting as second-chair in a successful trial vindicating Michael Jordan's termination of license agreements for the use of his name in a restaurant and retail store. She also has led as first-chair successful defenses of brokers and firms in arbitrations before the Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and participated in the trial of several patent infringement and trade secret misuse cases. Ms. Hartman has managed and first-chaired the patent and intellectual property litigation for financial products, as well as for telematics and well-recognized brands of consumer and luxury goods.

Pro Bono Activities
Ms. Hartman participates in Schiff Hardin's pro bono program, representing indigent clients at trial before the Social Security Administration and in Illinois state courts. She also represents criminal defendants through the Federal Defender Panel Program and has been appointed by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois as counsel for pro se clients, through her membership in the court's Trial Bar.
