Schiff Hardin has handled bankruptcy matters and creditors' rights litigation for clients in the energy industry, as well as individual creditors.

We have particular experience in the energy industry where we regularly represent major participants such as NiSource Inc. and its many subsidiaries and affiliates. We have had significant involvement on energy issues in bankruptcy cases such as Enron, Dana, Delphi and Mirant. We have been involved in issues including utility adequate assurance, ownership and transfer of gas by pipelines, contract assumption/rejection and setoff, among others.

We also regularly represent individual creditors in connection with the sale of bankruptcy claims. Our representation commonly involves an auction process and bundling of claims to achieve preferred bids, resulting in the immediate monetization of bankruptcy claims for our clients, who do not have to wait until the conclusion of the bankruptcy case to receive a distribution on their claims.
