Management-Union Relations

Schiff Hardin advises and represents clients in their relationships with unions, including:

  • Negotiation of collective bargaining agreements
  • Arbitrations
  • Strikes
  • Unfair labor practice and election proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and state labor relations boards.

Our firm has provided legal counsel in connection with numerous certification and decertification proceedings and the avoidance of union organizational attempts. The representation of clients in connection with management-union relations has extended to Section 301 breach of contract/duty of fair representation cases and other types of union litigation, including successfully defeating attempts by unions to enjoin plant closings and relocations.

We also have broad experience in dealing with union issues such as secondary boycotts, illegal picketing, and jurisdictional disputes in construction matters.
