Julie S. Schrager is a legal writing coach for the firm. She works with associates and partners individually to improve their writing skills and conducts workshops that focus on common writing challenges.
Julie S. Schrager joined Schiff Hardin from Chicago-Kent College of Law where she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Adjunct Professor and taught legal research and writing and white collar crime courses.
From 1995 to 1999, Ms. Schrager served as Assistant United States Attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office in Boston. In this capacity, she initiated and litigated actions for monetary penalties based on violations of bank fraud and drug diversion statutes, the False Claims Act (including health care and defense contracting fraud) and the Americans with Disabilities Act. She also represented the United States, its agencies and employees in defensive litigation, including employment, tort, constitutional, Freedom of Information Act and contract claims. Her practice included arguments on dispositive motions and appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In 1996, Ms. Schrager received the Director's Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney.
In 1996, Ms. Schrager also served as Special Associate White House Counsel. In this role she advised White House staff on compliance with internal ethics rules regarding contacts with federal agencies and assisted the Deputy Chief White House Counsel with analysis of policy matters. Earlier in her career, Ms. Schrager served as Assistant Chief of Staff and Special Policy Advisor for Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld. She was an associate at Arnold & Porter from 1989 to 1993, where she practiced in the litigation and legislation areas.
