Howard R. Barron

Of Counsel


Howard Barron's career spans more than 50 years and includes a broad range of litigation.

His initial experience was trying approximately 200 courts-martial in the U.S. Navy. He began his civil trial experience in federal court and U.S. administrative hearings for International Harvester, assisting Albert E. Jenner Jr., Philip W. Tone and Thomas P. Sullivan.

His subsequent trial experience included unfair competition litigation, such as trade secret cases and suits over confidentiality agreements and covenants not to compete, as well as employee raiding.

He has participated in all phases of labor and employment law including labor board unfair labor practice cases, representation hearings, election objections, Taft-Hartley litigation, injunction cases involving picketing, arbitrations, collective bargaining and other matters.

His experience in defending class actions also has included labor and employment matters.

Experience

  • Has been lead counsel in defending class actions for an automobile manufacturer (consumer fraud statutory violations, Magnuson Moss and other claims)
  • Represented a construction products manufacturer in defending toxic tort and other class actions
  • Participated for the defense in Mills v. Electric Auto-Lite Co., litigated for 14 years over the merger of two companies, resulting in the reversal of a $2 million damage award against his client
  • Represented a glass company in antitrust litigation
  • Represented a beer company’s interests in litigation with the National Hockey League (NHL) over television rights
General Representation
  • Represented several telecommunications companies
  • Represented several major grain companies
  • Handled antitrust matters in Illinois for a heavy equipment manufacturer
