Carl W. Oberdier focuses on complex commercial litigation and arbitration. He has represented companies in several large patent cases, including disputes involving complex organic polymers, cellular phone location technology and automotive components.

He also has represented companies in several domestic and international arbitrations and in a wide range of civil litigation, including:

Mr. Oberdier's experience includes:

  • Lead counsel in four major trials or arbitration hearings
  • Winning a verdict in a patent case worth several hundred million dollars that upheld a foreign manufacturer's right to import its flagship product into the United States
  • Winning an arbitration award on behalf of a reinsurer claiming a violation of the duty of utmost good faith
  • Winning dismissal of several lawsuits against foreign clients on Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act or forum non conveniens grounds
  • Winning numerous dispositive motions on behalf of his clients and negotiating favorable settlements on behalf of many others
